Tallapoosa County Community Service Grant Presentation

Senator Ted Little announced Community Service Grants in excess of $37,500.00 in  presentations held today at the Tallapoosa County Extension Auditorium in Dadeville, Alabama.  In addition, Senator Little presented the Certified Tallapoosa County Volunteer Fire Departments grants on behalf of the Alabama Forestry Commission totaling $10,483.85 and gave notice that the State Department of Education was able to channel equal amounts for a total of $57,000.00 for Fiscal Year 2007-2008 to Alexander City Schools and Tallapoosa County Schools at Senator Little’s encouragement.  These monies were being used for the benefit of a wireless wide area network within the Alexander City School System and to the Tallapoosa County System for certain needed facility repairs.  Additionally, Senator Little gave a letter of recognition to the Tallapoosa Historical Museum advising of additional budget allocations from the Historic Chattahoochee Commission funded through the State’s Fiscal Year 2008-2009 General Fund Budget.  They will receive $10,000.00, subject to proration.

            “I take great pride in presenting these grant checks on behalf of the citizens of Alabama.  The Community Service Grants have been awarded to groups who have met the set guidelines of having a direct connection to a classroom.  As an avid supporter of education, I am proud to award these monies to the entities that will have a tremendous effect on our young people’s future”, said Senator Little.

            “In addition, I find it extremely important for our Volunteer Fire Departments to have additional needed funding to operate.  Volunteer firefighters are some of our most unsung first responders; they are on call in rural areas when they are needed and oftentimes are rewarded with little recognition.  They do it because they love it.  Because of this, I am pleased to present each certified department with a check on behalf of the Forestry Commission and congratulate them on their hard work and dedication.”

            In all, Senator Little presented and announced monies for Tallapoosa County in the amount of $104,500.00.
