Loachapoka Community Learning Center Community Service Grant

Auburn –Senator Ted Little was surprised last week when he was greeted by students at Loachapoka Elementary School with signs and posters, all showing their thanks and appreciation for his role in securing a Grant for their after school program.  Cindy Davino, Coordinator of the Loachapoka Community Learning Center, is the visionary behind extending the program to include studies in fine arts.

After writing a comprehensive grant detailing the curriculum and need for this program, Ms. Davino turned to Senators Ted Little, D-Auburn, and Myron Penn, D-Union Springs, for support.  “I was impressed with the manner in which Ms. Davino visioned, articulated, and acted on this program”, said Sen. Little.  “This is a much needed program that offers a safe, educational environment for children to attend after regular school hours.  Senator Penn and I congratulate Ms. Davino for being committed to developing a Fine Arts Program and providing opportunities in music and art, among other things, to our children”.  Together, the Senators were able to provide $10,000.00 in funding from their community service grant allocations.  Among those attending the check presentation were, left to right:  Dr. Steve Nowlin, Lee County School Superintendent, Senator Ted Little, Cindy Davino, Program Coordinator, and Mary Ross, Principal of Loachapoka Elementary School.  Senator Penn was unable to attend due to a scheduling conflict.
