Sen. Little believes that Medicaid must be transformed into a program that is fiscally sustainable in the long run, but more importantly one that puts patients first. Because the combined state/federal spending on Medicaid now tops $4 billion annually, Sen. Little believes in working through the budget process to keep these healthcare programs operating at least at their current levels, because Medicaid is a lifeline for more than 800,000 Alabamians.
And when the elderly of the state were threatened by out-of-control prescription drug costs, Sen. Little voted to establish a state board to negotiate lower prescription costs for state programs.
